I didn’t think I would be reviewing books on this blog, but hey, my friends, this is my first paranormal book review! I’ve decided to review this book because it’s worth it, and it’s the best book I’ve read so far dealing with ghosts as dead people. There’s a reason I say it that way, which you’ll get in a moment.
Life with the Afterlife: 13 Truths I Learned about Ghosts by Amy Bruni – A review
Full disclosure, I’ve watched Amy Bruni grow on TV as a paranormal investigator over the last decade. She’s been one of the most down to earth, realistic personalities on any of the paranormal shows on TV. She starred in the granddaddy of them all, Ghost Hunters on SYFY, and now she’s in her own show, Kindred Spirits (going on its 5th season).
I listened to the audiobook version of, “Life with the Afterlife,” which Christine Lakin narrates. Christine does a great job and her voice is quite pleasant to listen to again and again.
Joan and I started listening to audiobooks many years ago when we started driving across Europe, visiting hundreds of castles. We discovered that good audiobooks are a great way to pass the time during long drives. We’ve been listening ever since as we travel more and more, some books we’ve listened to multiple times because they’re that good. Amy’s book is now one of those.
Amy does something in her book that I don’t think enough paranormal investigators do when they discuss ghost hunting or their research, she explains that if ghosts are real, then it stands to reason that they are people too, at least, they were, and they deserve to be treated with such respect.
She goes on to explain that the ghosts are not sticking around because they want to (for the hell of it), and some, if not all, probably don’t even realize that they’re dead or, “ghosts,” as we call them.
Amy does what so many rarely do when discussing the paranormal, she humanizes the experience and allows you to enter her world, and believe, really believe, even if briefly, that ghosts do exist, and you, yes, you, probably have experienced their presence, too.
In fact, Amy’s book is so good that she’s changed my way of looking at some of my paranormal experiences, and how I will consider them going forward, as I continue to travel to unique locations.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to give you a chapter by chapter break down of Amy’s book, because really, I don’t read book reviews that do that because I don’t like my books spoiled.
However, if you want to know if she talks about the TV shows from a behind-the-scenes perspective, the answer is, yes-ish, but again, I don’t want to spoil it for you on any level, so if you already have watched and enjoyed the shows she’s been in, then you don’t want to miss this book.
Ultimately, what I want to know about a book is if it is recommended by people who I know also enjoy the same type of books I read, or not.
I highly recommend Amy’s book!
