What makes a location the most haunted isn’t always what you see and hear while you’re there, but what you feel and, sometimes, if you’re lucky, what shows up in your video, audio, and photos when you review them later. Sometimes the chills you get afterward are from realizing what was there with you and you didn’t even know it.
Last year, we visited dozens of haunted locations in Europe! We went up to the highest castle in the Palatinate Forest in Germany, which is home to the origin story of the Princess and the Frog, all the way down 250 ft below ground into abandoned sections of the Maginot Line—the WW2 French bunker and tunnel system that stretches the entire border! And so many incredible locations in between. I was joined by my good and daring friend, Erik Jessie who took photographs and never ran away (like I did)!
I openly admit that I had the holy shit scared out of me several times, but none more so than at the #1 spot and that’s saying something, cause we’re going to start here:
#5 The Haunted Forest in Germany
I’ve kind of made this forest famous in my book “The Wee-Jees.” It’s pretty much the vast wilderness behind where I lived as a kid when my father was stationed in Germany. My friends and I had several paranormal experiences in the forest, all were incredibly frightening and in the end, they proved to be life-changing. After having published the book, I wanted to go back, and I took my bridge camera with me. On a whim, I decided to film my trip. It turned into a crazy experience but I should not have unexpected it as much as I did. Without me revealing too much—you can watch the video on YouTube (click) here to watch it.
#4 Frankenstein Castle, Frankenstein Germany
Erik and I decided to do a night investigation at Frankenstein Castle! I don’t know WTF we were thinking but we did it like a couple of idiots and we captured something that blew our eff’ing minds! On several occasions, while we were up there in the darkness, I thought I saw Erik next to me, and it turned out it wasn’t him! And that’s not all! #3 Joan of Arc’s Home in Domrémy-la-Pucelle, France
Yes, THE Joan of Arc, the Patron Saint of France!
I love this place! If I was making a list of my most cherished places on Earth, Joan of Arc’s hometown would be it! There’s something so special about this location and you can feel it in the air the moment you enter. I cannot recommend this location enough. I will go back again and again, no matter how deep in the French sticks it is and let me tell you, it’s way out in the wilderness. It’s so desolate that it really makes you wonder how a young girl from such a small village so far away from everything can save a country and become its patron saint! Her story is as amazing and thrilling as it is sad and heartbreaking. The word I got from my device while exploring her home literally broke my heart. You can watch the video (click) here.
#2 WW2 Bunker, Germany
We visited a lot of WW1 and WW2 bunkers in Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and we’ve had some crazy experiences in several of them but there’s only one (so far) that made me run! And what I mean by run is that I hauled ass out of there like the life had been scared out of me. There was something else in there, we captured the sound of its movement on camera just before it frightened me and made me get out. You can watch the video (click) here.
#1 Abandoned WW2 POW Camp in France
This is the saddest and most haunting location we’ve visited so far. It was originally a base to support the Maginot Line in the 1930s but after the Germans conquered the area they turned it into a POW camp for soviet prisoners. Over 200 mass graves were later found after it was liberated by the U.S. Infantry. Over 23,000 bodies were recovered. Today the remains of the buildings still stand, barely, creating a haunting environment that we were fortunate enough to film for you. You can watch the video (click) here. There are two parts, the second part you can watch (click) here.
